Ah another
senic view of Saipan. This is actually a picture taken from the bathroom of
the building where I worked. Now I do have some pleasant memories of Saipan,
but this isn't one of them.
Actually I despised the nature of the island. Not that was incredibly hot but
most of the year it could be deemed opressively humid. The flora and fauna left
a bit to be desired IMHO too. Mainly because Saipan was one of the first places
ever to get Napalmed back in WWII. It seemed like there were about 4 types of
trees and two types of grass. The wild animals were Toads Rats cats & dogs.
The next largest creatures werethe few cows. Quite afew geckos, some cockroaches
and a never ending suppluy of ants.
Somehow one of types of trees on the island got under my skin. The signature
"Flame trees" annoyed me to no end. At first I kind of liked thier
bright flourescent orange flowers... then seeing that color polluting the pale
green across the entire island day after day week after week month after month.
I honestly couldn't have been happier when a hurricane came along one year and
damaged the flame trees just before they bloomed. Scary. I don't hate trees.
Normally I like trees... but not flame trees.
Anyway if you want a real tropical island I reccomend Palau.
